CLARET, France - April 9, 2008 - NETIA today announced the release of its new Video-Over-IP Recorder and Streamer modules for the company's ManreoTM range of software for media asset management. ManreoTM software allows broadcasters and other media professionals to manage and add value to media through digitization, editing of raw footage, indexing, archiving, and browsing of media assets. These two new software modules allow ManreoTM users to simplify the acquisition and distribution of IP-based content.
"Our new VOIP Recorder and VOIP Streamer modules reduce the complexity of taking SDI video from the camera to editing by eliminating the need for a video server. A simple file server and a facility's existing architecture can instead be leveraged for acquisition and delivery of digital video," said Yoann Poizeau, video product manager at NETIA. "By using a cost-effective platform and fairly basic infrastructure, these additions to Manreo provide an affordable solution for enhancing productivity in the digital environment."
The VOIP Recorder streamlines acquisition of SDI content, accepting the encoded IP stream and delivering media to the file server, where it's available for editing, archiving, and autoindexation. The elimination of the video recorder, video grid, and video encoder reduces overall costs and supports a fast, completely digital workflow with more timely delivery of rushes and replays of live content with delay. A simple computer system can be used for review and quality control.
NETIA's VOIP Streamer enables the delivery of content to any number of destinations at once if those sites are equipped with an VOIP Recorder or VOIP Decoder with an SDI output. The module supports broadcasting over IP (nearVOD) and allows for delivery of multiple streams from a basic desktop PC. At the transmitter, video can be checked via a standard video player loaded on a PC.
NETIA will be showcasing the ManreoTM software range, including the new VOIP Recorder and Streamer, at the 2008 NAB Show.

Visitors to NETIA's NAB booth will be able to catch a demonstration of the company's Warehouse Web Version 2.0 audio and video broadcast and display platform that can provide new services and revenue opportunities for Manreo TM users. This full-featured software solution provides companies with a system for centralizing, sharing, and viewing audio, image, and video archives, and broadcasting them across multiple distribution channels (Web portals, mobile devices, ADSL, etc.). Because Warehouse Web 2.0 has been developed using the REST (Representational State Transfer) architecture and includes Xml Web Services, it now offers up to four easy-to-use interfaces, making it more ergonomic and powerful.
Warehouse Web's Catalog Interface offers Manreo users a global view of all files and metadata, along with more powerful searches. The Terminology Interface manages the Thesaurus and allows users to add, delete, and modify words and interaction between words. The Media Interface manages the storage of both audio and video files. Using this interface, users can view various files and file format support. Finally, Warehouse Web's Monitoring Interface lets the user track file conversion and publishing workflows to various platforms, including mobile phones.
The video recorder module within the Manreo TM suite is used to acquire and digitize videos from tape. With functionality including start, stop, forward, rewind, etc., Manreo TM Video Recorder controls the VTR and launches the acquisition and digitization (MPEG-2 with MainConcept) process. For TV stations and other media companies with large stores of tape-based archives, Manreo Video Recorder enables migration to lossless and more secure digital storage.
The migration of media libraries to digital is critical to preserving media, but it also can be a very demanding process. This latest addition to the Manreo product line uses the RS-232 and RS-422 protocol to control external VTRs and allows users to connect a jog/shuttle control via USB port for easy navigation. The operator can watch video as the media is being digitized, plus in and out points can be marked to create a clip or even a new video, produced automatically from a series of marked segments.
NETIA will also showcase its Media LoggingTM range at NAB. This range of solutions meets the increased worldwide demand for radio and TV monitoring systems by carrying out the capture, indexing, transcoding, and distribution of audio and video content. Broadcasters, telecom and mobile phone operators, and Internet companies use Media Logging for continuous capture of video and audio files, 24 hours a day. Each file is examined individually, segmented, and completed with the necessary associated metadata in an automatic or semi-automatic mode ¬ through the use of sophisticated new speech-to-text and image recognition techniques.

CLARET, France - Jan. 29, 2008 - NETIA today announced that the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) will be using the company's U-Share as a solution for streamlining distribution of non-same-day periodic content, and for the exchange of non-critical files for standard use at ABC Radio stations. By enabling delivery of this content over the ABC network when traffic is low, the U-Share network management system will free up bandwidth for fast, immediate delivery of critical content even during the network's busiest times.
In ABC's existing workflow, content is played out over an audio line, either ISDN or satellite, and recorded on one or several receivers or delivered via an ad-hoc file transfer. U-Share will help to address the problem of transferring audio files, such as music and promotions, among those stations more efficiently.
All content being exchanged passes over the audio network or ABC's IP network. Real-time exchanges take place throughout the day, but at "rush hour", the volume of content being transferred can saturate the network. Because users lack the ability to prioritize critical audio information, the exchanges slow down or even stall and are completed at a later date. This can be an issue in particular for the smaller local ABC affiliate stations that rely on IP connections with bandwidth ranging from 128 kbps to 512 kbps. The transfer of audio files could be sluggish in these cases, and each file exchange can consume valuable bandwidth normally dedicated to the stations' Web sites.
In its implementation at ABC Radio, U-Share will allow the broadcaster to plan audio file and metadata transfers through a basic reservation process while maximizing bandwidth usage. Non-critical audio elements that don't need to be transferred immediately will be exchanged by U-Share outside of peak hours. During periods of low activity on the network, such as at night, the increased bandwidth available will be used for delivery of those non-critical files. U-Share streamlines traffic by monitoring and leveraging this free bandwidth.
U-Share will also allow ABC Radio staff to use the Radio-Assist browser to flip through low-quality content stored remotely. Generating only minimal traffic on the network, the user can listen to audio within the remote database and plan a high-quality file transfer for a time when bandwidth usage is at a low. For every file exchange, the user identifies a specific window for transfer. U-Share then determines the optimal way to transfer the file during that timeframe.

For M6, delivery of content from physical media to different platforms requires specific transcoding capability, as content is first encoded into MPEG-2 format and then to other, more compressed formats for different devices. The process was manually intensive and required extensive technical expertise.
To simplify and automate media handling and delivery to viewers through the M6 Web Internet and mobile sites, the company turned to NETIA's ManreoTM Hypercast media asset management and encoding software. M6 has used NETIA's news transcription and streaming solution in other applications and, after extensive consultation by both editorial and technical teams, chose to work with the French company's software solutions once again. M6 officially took NETIA Hypercast Warehouse live at the beginning of March.
Using Hypercast Warehouse, M6 staff can centralize, share, and view audio, image, and video archives and broadcast those assets across multiple distribution channels, such as Web portals, mobile devices, ADSL, etc. The software references all types of objects, files, and physical media (audio, video, and still images); identifies all copies of a given video or image, whatever the version, format, or location; manages transfer to storage; and automatically converts source files into various formats for viewing and distribution.
M6 has integrated the Hypercast solution into its operations to allow any editorial staff to manage transcoding. Staff use the software along with M6 web's content management system to gain a view of content and then mix still and video content within a template. The content is created in Hypercast Warehouse, previewed through the JCMS template, and then posted to the Web site directory.
"NETIA's Hypercast allows our editorial team to update the Web site and mobile site through simple interfaces with minimal intervention," says Stéphane Agneray, Video Manager at M6web. "As a result, we've already seen improvements in efficiency and quality."
Repurposing content for the Internet and mobile services is made easy through profiles that define the appropriate transcoding for any platform. Hypercast automates the publishing of stored media or files and defines broadcast targets and publication rules. Integrated templates ensure that published media is fully compliant with M6's graphic guidelines.
Before bringing the Hypercast software online, staff members at M6 web were required to transcode material multiple times for multiple formats and platforms. Now just one template can be used to launch this process automatically, with tremendous productivity benefits as a result. Because the publishing of media is now a more highly automated process, it also is a more standardized process, with specifications set and adhered to for all outputs. Thus, the quality of Internet and mobile media also has been enhanced through this new workflow.
"Our main purpose was to find a way to cope with the growth of our services and ensure better updating of different sites and services," adds Stéphane Agneray. "Now we can ingest from different physical media or directly from the output of post-production. We've been able to increase our processing capacity, as well as the quality of video, and we're now equipped to handle further growth and an even larger volume of media." Most of the M6 web content moving through Hypercast is transcoded to Windows Media format for video-on-demand over the Internet and as a basic format delivered to M6 mobile partners for further transcoding. M6 web also uses NETIA's Hypercast to provide MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 content for its Internet IPTV platform.
While this solution has made a significant impact on the workflow at M6 web, the training period for the NETIA Hypercast-based system took just a couple of hours. M6 web continues to refine its use of its new NETIA software, but the broadcaster already has met its original goals in deploying the system.
M6, part of the RTL Group, is among France's most popular channels and has substantial interests in nine theme channels, as well as various media-related business, ranging from publishing, music delivery, and mobile services to rights acquisition and film distribution. Like other leaders in the media industry, M6 is moving an increasing amount of video and audio to viewers through its online presence and mobile service, M6.fr and M6 Mobile by Orange.

CLARET, France - Dec 10., 2007 - NETIA today announced that its Radio-AssistTM suite of digital audio software products is being used by public radio broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (Hrvatska Radiotelevizija, or HRT) to streamline acquisition, editing, scheduling, broadcasting, and archiving within a highly efficient workflow.
Today HRT works with more than 100 production workstations in approximately 20 different departments at its main facility in Zagreb, Croatia. Radio-Assist is also installed at HRT regional sites across the country in cities such as Zadar, Split, and Dubrovnik.
"Among the main reasons we chose to work with the NETIA solution is that it gives our staff the ability to record, edit, or prepare playlists from within a single application," said Marko Malnar, head of HRT's technical department. "Radio-Assist gives our journalists direct control over their work. Rather than negotiate with a technician to try to achieve the right result, our reporters, editors, and producers now use NETIA software to record and edit material. With this capacity has come greater creativity in how our staff members approach the creation of their shows, and we have seen the positive results of this change in our on-air broadcasts."
HRT first installed NETIA systems in 1998, beginning with the deployment of a NETIA automation system consisting of two production workstations and four on-air workstations. In subsequent years, the broadcaster adopted additional NETIA systems and connected each regional site with the Zagreb facility using dedicated 2-Mbps, 10-Mbps, and 34-Mbps links to enable fast and automated content exchange.
Content for HRT production is acquired both manually and automatically from several different feeds. During the editing process, Sequoia multitrack recording and editing software is interfaced with Radio-AssistTM to enable music production and mastering. In playout, the Radio-AssistTM scheduling module supports scheduling of the full daily playlist for eight different HRT studios. NETIA's AirDDO Live-Assist mode facilitates playout during the day and a fully automatic mode takes over playout during nighttime hours. The On-Air workstation is set up in a master/slave configuration to prevent any crash on the main workstation from interrupting the on-air broadcast.
Radio-AssistTM is being paired with a NOA Audio Systems workstation to enable digitizing and ingest of HRT content for archiving within an EMC2 storage system. When fully integrated with the NOA Audio Systems database, Radio-AssistTM will manage delivery of media to different areas of the facility workflow in the correct format: high-resolution for archiving, middle-resolution for the production domain, and low-resolution for browsing the media library. This phase of HRT's expansion is scheduled to be finalized in Summer 2008, at which point NETIA's media management and Autofill solutions will manage the traffic among these domains and enable further automation of channel playout. With certification and support from NETIA, technicians at HRT are prepared to run diagnostics and maintain the system as necessary.
