NETIA and Isilon Systems Join to Offer Best-of-Breed Media Storage and Security

Integrated Solution Featuring NETIA Radio-Assist 7.5 and the Isilon IQ Clustered Storage System Provides Unique Level of Data Protection

CLARET, France - May. 16, 2007 - NETIA today announced an agreement through which its Radio-AssistTM 7.5 range of digital audio software programs will be integrated with Isilon® Systems' Isilon IQ clustered storage to provide best-of-breed data storage and security. Radio-AssistTM's DBShare database management module ensures the consistency of database contents, while the Isilon IQ storage solution provides added protection with SnapshotIQ', SyncIQ®, and SmartConnect' Advanced software, all of which contribute to preservation of file integrity and accessibility.

"Media content is the broadcaster's greatest asset, so it is critical to protect that material with the best solutions available," said Xavier De Vynck, NETIA vice president of business development.. "In bringing together Isilon IQ clustered storage and Radio-Assist TM, we offer broadcasters a comprehensive solution for radio-station management, now equipped with unique data protection tools for scheduled global system snapshots, synchronization of databases, replication, and optimized access to stored media."

"The OneFS operating system powering Isilon IQ clustered storage combines the three traditional layers of storage - file system, volume manager and RAID - into one, single, highly scalable file system," adds Philip Crocker, Director of Marketing, EMEA, Isilon Systems. "Like NETIA's Radio-Assist TM digital audio software line, Isilon IQ integrates easily into existing environments and provides robust protection for broadcasters' valuable media assets. Our storage system runs under different platforms without the need for dedicated protocols, which makes this integrated product pairing a stable, easy-to-implement solution for virtually any broadcast facility."

The Isilon IQ family of clustered storage systems was designed from the ground up to meet the needs of data-intensive enterprises and high-performance computing environments. The Isilon IQ solution offers a range of data security software including SnapshotIQ, which enables instant global snapshots of the server system; SyncIQ, which allows for synchronization and replication processes; and SmartConnect Advanced, which allows users to optimize the number of client connections based on NFS and CIFS protocols. In conjunction with Radio-AssistTM, and the DBShare module in particular, Isilon IQ delivers high storage capacity with simple management tools and a high level of data security.

DBShare is an automatic device that centralizes all communications with the Radio-AssistTM 7.5 database. By performing systematic and synchronous redundancy checks of all the metadata produced by the system, DBShare ensures the consistency of database contents. All databases are automatically synchronized, and when an incident occurs on one database, DBShare automatically and transparently switches over to another database and archives all the queries made during and after the incident. When conditions return to normal, the memorized queries are automatically executed and the database fully restored.

The integrated solution, offered through NETIA resellers, comprises the Radio-AssistTM 7.5 software range along with a minimum of three Isilon IQ nodes associating Intel Xeon' 3.3-Ghz processing with 4 Gb of cache and managing 12 S-ATA hard disks in RAID from 160 to 500 Gb. The storage capacity of each node is 1.9 Tb to 6 Tb, and 88 nodes can be linked to provide a capacity of 528 Tb. The cluster nodes are interconnected by a commutator InfiniBand of 10 Gbps and connected to the servers by Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

RTBF Builds Production and Broadcast Workflow Around NETIA Radio-Assist Software Suite

CLARET, France - May 21, 2007 - NETIA today announced that Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF), the public broadcaster serving the French-speaking area of southern Belgium, has built its radio production and broadcast operations around the Radio-AssistTM suite of digital audio software products. With NETIA's Radio-AssistTM, RTBF has thoroughly redefined its production workflow, implementing highly efficient news production and channel playout operations that allow staff to focus more time and energy on the quality and creativity of broadcast content.

"Production processes within national broadcast organizations seldom change over time, so the transition from analog to digital represented a significant shift for us," said Laurent Flemal, technical director at RTBF. "We found, however, that the advent of digital tools did not bring as much of a revolution to our business as did the introduction of NETIA production tools. Our current workflow evolved around the use of Radio-Assist, which has become the backbone of radio production at RTBF."

NETIA's Radio-AssistTM range of digital audio software programs covers the entire operation of a radio broadcaster, allowing production staff to record, edit, or prepare playlists while working within a single application. The software was first installed at RTBF in 1999 and since has grown into a sophisticated and highly automated production and playout system incorporating nearly the full range of Radio-AssistTM modules. RTBF relies on these solutions at all levels of radio production at all of its sites, including facilities in Brussels, Liège, Mons, Charleroi, and Namur.

Radio-AssistTM terminals are available in every recording studio, in newsrooms, and on presenters' desks, and each system is equipped with tools specific to the user's requirements. The file servers supporting RTBF production are located in Brussels and Mons, mirrored using DB-Share on a fiber network. Extremely remote, localized production sites use an autonomous system to dial in to the central server to collect elements as needed.

In live on-air production studios, RTBF personnel generate broadcast feeds using Air-DDO. QuickPlayer is used as a backup system and as a complement for complex broadcasts requiring quick access to many jingles. NETIA's Air-Playlist is used for nighttime programming and for most of RTBF's classical music programming. The broadcaster also uses Na-Arch to archive content on a central near-online data server and Dispatcher to feed a podcasting system. Air-List is installed on all workstations to gather metadata used for DAB, RDS, and Web applications.

"RTBF's implementation of Radio-Assist coincided with the company's transition to digital and, in fact, provided a client-server configuration that enabled a controlled evolution of RTBF operations, with a variety of possibilities still open in the future," said Xavier De Vynck, NETIA vice president of business development. "We're very pleased to have worked with RTBF over the past eight years and look forward to continued partnership in leveraging digital workflows to the benefit of the broadcaster and its listeners."

Information about NETIA and its products is available at www.netia.com.

Radio-Assist User Sawt al Madena Radio Wins Digital Studio Industry Leadership Award

Jordanian Station Honored for State-of-the-Art Technology at New Amman Facility.

CLARET, France - April 4, 2007 - NETIA today announced that Jordanian FM station Sawt al Madena Radio has received the 2007 Digital Studio Industry Leadership Award for best radio installation. The award honors the state-of-the-art technology implemented at Sawt al Madena Radio, which took its broadcasts live in February 2006, using NETIA's Radio-AssistTM range of digital audio software programs.

The "Best Radio Installation of the Year" Award was handed to Ms. Huda Qutishat, assistant to the chairman, at the Digital Studio Industry Leadership Awards Gala and Dinner in Dubai.

The award acknowledges installations that are state-of-the-art within the Middle East region.

The Radio-AssistTM range of digital audio software programs covers the entire operation of a radio station, allowing production staff to record, edit, or prepare playlists while working within a single application. Sawt al Madena Radio, located in Amman, has equipped one of its studios with Radio-AssistTM Air-DDO software, with four workstations dedicated to scheduling and ingest, and two others for news capture from live satellite feeds. This NETIA system is customized with an Arabic-language interface and provides a broad range of playout functions.

The installation at Sawt al Madena Radio relies on one centralized SAN storage system, an HP StorageWorks 100 modular smart array, and two database servers, which provide 2,000 hours of storage. This configuration gives Sawt al Madena a highly scalable storage solution for broadcast content. Offline storage, doubling as an archive, is supplied by a CD jukebox with a capacity of up to 10 TB. New From NETIA for BroadcastAsia2007:

Convergence is critical to making content available for distribution through a variety of channels, and NETIA will be exhibiting its line of products focused on this theme to the Asian broadcast market attending BroadcastAsia2007. NETIA has enhanced its Radio-Assist TM 7.5 range of digital audio software programs, Manreo TM asset management software, and Media Logging TM range with added functionality to enable broadcasters to converge their workflows in a comprehensive software suite. All NETIA systems will be on display at BroadcastAsia2007 in the Broadcast Professionals PTE stand, 7B3-05.

Enhanced Radio-Assist 7.5 Range

The Radio-Assist TM 7.5 range of digital audio software programs covers each part of the production and broadcast workflow, allowing users to record, edit, or prepare a playlist. Radio-Assist TM 7.5 features tools for acquisition, sound-file editing, commercial and music production, newsroom systems, scheduling, multicasting, administration, and more. With its modular structure, it can adapt to the different requirements of radio facilities and integrate rapidly into an existing environment.

Equipped with new features that further enrich production and playout processes, Radio-Assist TM 7.5 offers a one-stop solution that enables even more flexible handling of media.

  • U-Share Integration

NETIA has integrated its U-Share network management system into Radio-Assist TM 7.5 to simplify the distribution of audio content from one site to multiple destination sites. U-Share automates the exchange of content over the latest transmission platforms - IP transport or DVB video transport - for easy management of content distribution to the right place, at the right time.

Other content exchanges can be organized according to priority with flexible options for setting and modifying transmission schedules. U-Share optimizes the exchange of video and audio content through autonomous and automatic management of its transport network. For each transfer request in a given time slot, U-Share offers the best solution for the current network congestion, thus considerably reducing transfer costs.

  • Speech-to-Text Functionality

Speech-to-text functionality integrated into Radio-Assist TM 7.5 offers broadcasters a new level of content analysis and retrieval. By turning audio content into text, which in turn can be incorporated as metadata, the software gives broadcasters a content-mining capability that helps identify and evaluate broadcast patterns. Enriching media in this way also facilitates faster and better access to specific content, and makes that media more valuable for reference or use in future productions.

  • Multitrack XT With Integrated VST Standard

Intended for radio professionals, this editing tool for Radio-Assist TM 7.5 is designed for multitrack digital audio recording and editing and will be on display at BroadcastAsia2007. Manreo With Added Café Functionality and New Video Recorder Module

  • Manreo TM Café With Support for Multiple-Channel Recording

Also being highlighted at BroadcastAsia2007 is NETIA's Manreo TM software range, designed to maximize productivity gains in media asset management and use of rich media. Among the modules in this range is Manreo Café, a fully automated software solution for managing the entire video acquisition chain, from triggering recording via image recognition or according to a predefined program schedule, to file encoding and transmission to remote servers.

Manreo Café TM now supports recording of one channel and simultaneous management of multiple record sessions through external devices, such as the Scopus Video Networks integrated receiver decoder. Thus, only one Café module is required to record feeds from multiple channels at the same time.

  • New Manreo Video Recorder Module

The new video recorder module within the Manreo suite is used to acquire and digitize videos from tape. With functionality including start, stop, forward, rewind, etc., Manreo Video Recorder controls the VTR and launches the acquisition and digitization (MPEG-2) process. For TV stations and other media companies with large stores of tape-based archives, Manreo Video Recorder enables migration to lossless and more secure digital storage.

The migration of media libraries to digital is critical to preserving media, but it also can be a very demanding process. This latest addition to the Manreo product line uses the RS-232 protocol to control external VTRs and allows users to connect a jog/shuttle control via USB port for easy navigation. The operator can watch video as the media is being digitized, plus in and out points can be marked to create a clip or even a new video, produced automatically from a series of marked segments.

Media Logging

NETIA's Media LoggingTM range meets the increased worldwide demand for radio and TV monitoring systems by carrying out the capture, indexing, transcoding, and distribution of audio and video content. Broadcasters, telecom and mobile phone operators, and Internet companies use Media LoggingTM applications for continuous capture of video and audio files 24 hours a day. Each file is examined individually, segmented, and completed with the necessary associated metadata - in an automatic or semi-automatic mode - through the use of sophisticated new speech-to-text and image-recognition techniques.

This advanced speech-to-text functionality allows broadcasters to converge their workflows and achieve wider content distribution from a single software suite. Fully integrated with the company's video and audio management products, this monitoring software enables capture of additional metadata for more detailed analysis and powerful new search functions.

The complete Media LoggingTM range is fully Web-based to accommodate today's workflows. Perfectly adapted for media companies and telcos active in the repurposing of content, this product line delivers workflows that can increase the speed of delivery by a factor of 10 or more.

NETIA Radio-Assist Brought to Congo's Bukavu Archdiocese to Enable Broadcasts for Positive Social Change

CLARET, France - Feb. 05, 2007 - NETIA today announced that its Radio-AssistTM range of digital audio software programs is being used to launch a new radio project within the South Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Designed to give a voice to the voiceless, the people excluded from society, and to offer solidarity to those who are suffering, Radio Concordia will encourage the social integration of the less-fortunate classes into mainstream society.

"The installation of NETIA's Radio-Assist TM here in South Kivu will be a first-of-a-kind achievement for the region, and we're working hard to make this project a reality," said Rev. Jean-Paul BAHATI, the Catholic priest whose mission led him to in the DRC's Bukavu Archdiocese and to the Radio Concordia project. "Radio-Assist TM will give us the tools necessary to create and broadcast educational programs that we feel will make a significant social impact here. Because the software is easy to use and has few technical demands, it will simplify production of programming and eventually enable us to offer members of the community the opportunity to contribute to local program content."

Jean-Paul BAHATI studied theology in Rome, followed by courses in journalism at Rome's Sainte-Croix University, where he earned a degree in social communication. During three years spent working as an immigration editor at Italy's RAI (Italian Radio and Television), he became familiar with NETIA's Radio-AssistTM. RAI has counted on NETIA technology for its most critical radio operations since 1998, and now Jean-Paul BAHATI is bringing the same reliable performance of Radio-AssistTM to the DRC to support and integrate the country's outcast.

The Radio-AssistTM 7.5 range of digital audio software programs covers the entire operation of a radio station, from production to broadcast, including acquisition, sound-file editing, commercial and music production, newsroom system, scheduling, multicasting, administration, and more. Jean-Paul BAHATI and his colleagues received the necessary governmental authorization to install a local radio station. Once they raise sufficient financial aid to establish Radio Concordia, they will use these tools to begin their own broadcasts, bringing the Gospel to Bukava Archdiocese along with messages addressing the social divisions in the area.

Radio France Builds New Master Control Room Around Custom Routing Software From NETIA

NETIA Software Sits at Heart of Audio Flows to Enable Fast, Easy Routing of Signals Throughout Radio France Headquarters.

CLARET, France - Feb. 9, 2007 - NETIA today announced that its MANREOTM range of content management software is being used by Radio France to control all internal audio flows among its studios and to enable simultaneous mixing from workstations in different studios. The custom solution delivered by NETIA is a MANREOTM -derived, IP-based redundant control system for the Lawo Nova 73 audio routing matrix. The system was taken live in August 2006 as part of a master control room at La Maison de Radio France, the Radio France headquarters in Paris.

"We rely on NETIA's Radio-Assist for all of our sound production tools, and for this master control project, the company demonstrated its ability to meet our needs for IP-based signal-routing software as well," said Jean-Marc de Felice, Head of Technical Resources at Radio France. "The resulting system allows us to access audio more quickly and easily, with much greater flexibility in routing signals where they are needed. The NETIA routing system gives us the ability to link equipment located all over the facility and has allowed us to free up space for other projects at La Maison de Radio France."

Radio France operates 47 local radio stations and six national networks. The NETIA solution is installed within the new NODAL master control room at La Maison de Radio France to ensure secure transmission of audio throughout the facility. The system previously in use was an aging, highly centralized solution that limited access to routing by all Radio France stations.

The new NETIA software sits at the heart of operations at Radio France. The system controls 1120 by 1136 crosspoints in handling all of the signals that enter and leave the facility, including incoming signals from ENG and SNG, transmissions to the radio transmitter for FM and AM networks, and routing of feeds from one studio to another. Staff members at the Radio France facility now have the ability to use the single NETIA interface to get an overview of all routing possibilities. The system operates on a 24/7 basis in a redundant configuration that supports uninterrupted production and transmission of radio broadcasts.
